Missions and Horizon Europe: the Inter/multi/transdisciplinary Context
This paper gives an overview of the new concept of 'missions' within the framework of Horizon Europe (FP9). 'Missions' are envisaged as being highly multidisciplinary and geared towards the individual and society. This implies the necessity of including the Humanities and Social Sciences in all domains of research. At the end, a critical overview of the current distribution of Commissioners' portfolios (the future Commission) was given. This distribution is highly problematic, not just because the notion of research has been totally eliminated, but also because the five already identified missions have been distributed between different future Commissioners. This does go against the grain of synergy and threatens the basic idea and the basic notions of FP9.
