Green, energy-efficient and sustainable networks
The book “Green, Energy-Efficient and Sustainable Networks” represents a collection of 18 high- quality papers published as a Special Issue of Sensors. The published papers are self-contained peer-reviewed scientific works corresponding to the work of more than 80 authors from academia and industry. Among the published papers, there is one editorial, 16 research, and one review paper. The editorial paper provides an introduction to the problem of ICT sector energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, presenting the latest and future trends in improving the energy efficiency of wireless networks and data centers as two major ICT sector energy consumers. The research articles collectively cover issues in improving energy efficiency in the fields of software-defined networking, internet of things, machine learning, authentication, energy harvesting, wireless relay systems, routing metrics, wireless sensor networks, device to device communications, heterogeneous wireless networks, and image sensing. The last review paper gives an overview of improvements in energy efficiency for the implementation of 5G networks and beyond. This book can serve readers, as needed, in their industrial, teaching, and/or research and development activities, giving insights to the recent advances in different fields related to greening and improving of energy efficiency and sustainability of those ICTs which have been particularly addressed in this book.
