Il problema delle leggi di natura nelle scienze biologiche

The general philosophical problem of laws of nature, considering its relation to scientific practice in contemporary biology, can be represented by the following set of questions: are there biological laws of nature? What are the approaches to the concept of law of nature which lead us in giving positive or negative answer to the previous question? How can we explain the enormous gap between the standard philosophical criteria for nomological statements and apparent amorphousness of empirical generalizations in biological sciences? In what way is it possible in the recent philosophy of science to cope with a non-standard nomological status of the &laquo ; central dogma&raquo ; , Chargaff&#8217 ; s ratios, the sequence hypothesis and other generalizations which organize the practice of molecular biology? Now, my central claim here is that these and similar questions at issue in the corresponding philosophical debate on biological laws are to be solved on the grounds of systemic account of scientific knowledge. I argue that basic systemicity claim for the nomological validity of empirical generalizations used in natural sciences can be determined by a certain interpretation of Kant&#8217 ; s epistemological framework presented in his solution to the problem of the so-called &laquo ; empirical laws of nature&raquo ; . In that respect, my argument proposes specific reading and application of the Kantian type of systemicity strategy, developed accordingly for tackling the special problematic features of biological laws of nature. So, after the first two chapters, dealing respectively with the scientific and philosophical contexts related to the problem at issue, in the third and final chapter the proposed type of systemicity strategy carries out the basic reasons for assigning in scientific experimental practice a certain kind of nomological status to the so-called &laquo ; general principles&raquo ; of molecular biology.
