Electric Mobility of Micelles and Counterion Association

Electric conductivity of aqueous anionic micellar systems is due to contributions of anions, actions and charged micelles. Concentration of anions could be deduced from critical micellisation concentration, concentration of cations (counterions) is higher due to their partial dissociation from micelles, which also determines the micellar charge. Analysis of conductivity data enables evaluation of charge and electric mobility of micellar species. Measurements of micellar size and aggregatin number enable further interpretations of data. By using the Surface Complexation Model one can is able to calculate equilibrium constant of counterion association, which is an important parameter characterising the micellar system.
