Application of a Hybrid Turbulence Model in Numerical Simulation of Diffusion Flames

A hybrid turbulence model (HTM) and a stationary laminar flamelet model (SLFM) are applied in numerical simulation of two different diffusion flames: Sandia flame D and TECFLAM burner. For the same configuration of all other simulation parameters the assessment of HTM behaviour against standard k-eps model is performed and conclusions are made. The turbulence-chemistry interaction is accomplished via presumed beta probability density function (beta-PDF). A CSC solver has been developed for computation of laminar flamelet profiles, and, based on GRI-Mech 3.0 chemical mechanism, appropriate stationary laminar flamelet libraries and PDF tables were created subsequently. For radiation simulation in TECFLAM burner test case the discrete transfer radiation method (DTRM) is applied. AVL's CFD solver SWIFT is used for flow field resolution, while for other modelling issues the user-functions are applied.
