Determination of dose distribution in the veterinarian X ray diagnostics
The basis of radiation protection is the exact knowledge of absorbed dose. The dose determination in X-ray diagnostics is not a simple task because variable low-energy radiation has to be measured. Therefore the vetrinarian X-ray equipment and the used dosimetric sysem were first tested and their reliability determined. It was found that the dosimetric system used i.e. the TLD-700 detectors combined with a computerized TOLEDO 654 reader meet the requirements of dose determination in the X-ray diagnostics. After determination of the uncertainty of the dosimetry system, of the irradiation field homogeneity and of the reproducibility of the X-ray irradiation procedure, the organ doses received in X-ray wxamination of abdomen and pelvis of dogs were measured. The standard deviation of dose in the primary beam in 4 measurement cycles was +-5%, while the standard deviation of dose to organs was +- 25-30%. The analysis of the dosiemtric results in the vetrinarian X-ray diagnostics shows that besides the radiation damage the dose distribution (organ doses) can be estimated on the basis of the primary beam dose measurements.
