Veritistic Evaluation in Social Epistemology
The paper is a critique of veritism, the evaluative position in social epistemology, defended by A.I. Goldman, based on a dual set of values: on the one side, on the assumption that truth is the ultimate value in the evaluation of social institutions ; and on the other side, on new, particularly social standards. My critique is focused on the tension between the postulated goal of truth and the requirement of social evaluation.
social epistemology; veritism; epistemic evaluation of social institution; truth; social standards
