RECENT ADVANCEMENTS IN CONCRETE BRIDGE AND TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION IN CROATIA
The motorway construction is the greatest development project in Croatia. In terms of organisation, financing and construction the success of this project was paramount both at the European and world level. Croatian motorway network was doubled in just five years. In the scope of this work many motorway structures were constructed, with large-span bridges and long tunnels being the most complex and most expensive. Several recent major road bridges are discussed in the paper. Bridges in Croatia are constructed predominantly in concrete, although many are influenced by the aggressive Adriatic environment. Two longest tunnels are also presented: 5.67-km long Sveti Rok tunnel and 5.78-km long Mala Kapela tunnel. At the moment only one tunnel tube is opened to traffic and the other serves as a service tunnel and escape route.
