DYNAMIC LOAD TESTING OF THE BUKOVO VIADUCT

The Bukovo viaduct is a part of the national road D-8, section Orehovica – St. Kuzam. The viaduct superstructure is a pre-stressed concrete continuous beam cast in situ over five spans (32.0 + 3 x 40.0 + 28.0 m). The cross section of the beam is a one cell box with the cantilevers. The superstructure height is 250 cm and the superstructure width is 1186 cm. The exception is the fifth span where the superstructure width is increasing from 1186 cm at the beginning up to 1493 cm at the end. The upper deck thickness varies from 25 cm at the ends of the cantilevers and in the middle of the box to 40 cm above the webs. The 260 cm long cantilevers overhang from both sides of the upper deck of the box girder. The webs are angled 5:1 and 45 cm thick. The bottom plate of the box girder is 582 cm wide and 20 cm thick. At the connection to the web, thickness of the bottom plate is 30 cm. The transversal beams above the pears and above the abutments are used to additionally strengthen the box girder. The viaduct superstructure rests on the pot bearings placed on the top of the pear and the abutment caps. These caps are constructed of high quality mortar. The fifth span was additionally strengthened due to realized lower quality of concrete. The specifications were not met for the bottom plate and the webs. One heavy truck driving across the viaduct at various speeds to obtain the dynamic responses of the viaduct superstructure at desired frequencies presented the dynamic excitation of the viaduct. Experimental results were analyzed and compared with results obtained from the finite element model of the viaduct.
