Evaluation of the Conservation and Rural Revitalization Grants Scheme (CRRG) from World Bank financed Karst Ecosystem Conservation (KEC) Project

The CRRG is Component of the WB-GEF Karst Ecosystem Conservation (KEC) project, “ The goal of the CRRG project is to demonstrate linkages between rural development and biodiversity conservation, and to encourage projects in biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of biological resources in the KEC project region ; community development and increased civil society participation in biodiversity conservation ; and NGO activity in conservation. This analysis present an independent evaluation of the Karst Ecosystem Conservation project including the socio economic analysis of the karst region and the views of project beneficiaries and other stakeholders include in the project. The report consists introduction, overview of the CRRG Program for those who may not be familiar with its basic structure and operations, overall objectives and methodology underlying the report. Several sections respond directly to a series of questions raised and specific issues related to: • CRRG proposal application and selection process ; • CRRG program implementation, monitoring and oversight ; • impacts on land use and natural resource use practices ; • community attitudes and behavior, and ; • impacts on alternative income generated. The last section presents conclusions and lessons learned. Finally, a series of annexes presents additional detailed information, including in-depth reviews of eight grants and two case studies.
