Uptake of multiple nutrients and grazing on multiple prey
A modification in representation of nutrient uptake and grazing processes, based on the expressions for specific predation rates in 1-predator n-pray systems, is applied to Varela et al.(1992) biological model for simulation of deep-chlorophyll maximum (DCM) structure. A detailed analysis of differences between the original and modified model is performed. The modification mainly affects the changes in DCM magnitude, but not its depth. Changes in expressions for grazing processes contibuted to the differences between results more than changes in the uptake formulations. This is mainly related to the fact that regenerated production plays a secondary role in the model.
