Advantages and Disadvantages of Microwaves in Textile Pre-treatment Processes
Influence of pretreatment processes, drying and dyeing to availability of hydroxyl groups of woven cotton fabric was researched. Different pretreatment processes contribute increase or decrease in number of free hydroxyl groups of cotton fiber, which directly affects its reactivity. In this paper dyestuff containing vinyl-sulphonic group (C.I. Reactive Blue 19), which establishes covalent chemical bond with hydroxyl group of cotton through a mechanism of nucleophilic addition, was used. Quantity of available – OH groups in microwave dryed samples was  30% lower then in conventionally dryed samples. Furthermore, microwave drying did not cause decrease in adsorptivity (quantity of exhausted dye was insignificantly lower, compared to conventionally dryed sample).
