Quality of fermented residue of slaughterhouse waste after alkaline hydrolysisi and anaerobic digestion
Biomass can be considered as a strategic resource, not only because of its renewability but because of its availability which can lead to country’ s prosperity (transport fuel, electrical and thermal energy, chemicals). Slaughterhouse waste represents potentially dangerous waste, which, according to the EU legislative, has to be burnt in an incinerator. However, due to more efficient sanation, EU has introduced alkaline hydrolysis as an alternative method for slaughterhouse waste sanation. Objective of this paper was to determine the quality of fermented residue after an anaerobic digestion of slaughterhouse waste, previously treated with alkali. After the results of chemical analyses were obtained, it can be concluded that biogenic elements were within the moderate concentrations while heavy metal content was within the approved limits.
