Wireless computer network based on sound
A system that uses sound waves to transfer data over distance has been built and seamlessly integrated into Windows operating system through a virtual network adapter. To maximize the performance, state-of-the art elements of communication systems have been used, such as OFDM, channel shortening and turbo coding. Achieved results, in terms of data rates, are satisfactory when all hardware limitations are considered. A little more robustness to various interferences was expected and this is something that should be addressed in potential future improvements. Improving phase detection has been identified as something that would improve the entire system the most. Increasing turbo code block length and increasing the order of the interpolator have also been identified as areas for possible improvements. Overall, this system has met all the expectations put before it when the thesis problem was initially stated.
