Pronounced repeat and higher order repeat structure in genome of insect Tribolium castaneum.
In previous reports of Tribolium castaneum genome it was shown that much of DNA is composed of tandem repeats, of which 17% are satellite monomer 360 bp long1. We construct complete GRM2-4 diagram for T. castaneum from 1 bp to 100 kb. Using our novel computational algorithm Global Repeat Map (GRM) we find, in T. castaneum genome, tandem repeats based on 360 bp that are experimentally found to be satellites named as TCAST. In the next step of analyzing tandem repeats we identified for the first time in insects the primate-type higher order repeats (HORs) in status of formation, as a new phenomenon. TCAST satellites are important in understanding of selective constraints that are probably related to interaction with specific proteins and also in role in control and regulation of gene expression.
