The analysis of swearing in English and Croatian: gender differences and regional specificities
Modern linguistics as a discipline has managed to analyze a variety of language phenomena, developing various approaches to, as well as definitions and aspects of, more or less every language issue so far. However, swearing as a language phenomenon, and other types of taboo words in general, seem to be the least analyzed, and therefore most neglected in linguistic research. This thesis discusses the notion of swearing as a cultural, sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic phenomenon, analyzing data obtained through a research conducted among Croatian student population.
