Selftuning PID Controller Based on the Estimation of Process Ultimate Point
This paper deals with a selftuning PID controller based on the estimation and tracking of process ultimate point. Estimation uses bandpass filters to calculate gain and frequency of the process Nyquist curve where it intersects negative real axis. Tracking mechanism ensures that the estimation is corrected when it is not accurate. After the estimation of the ultimate point, parameters of PID controller are calculated by using Ziegler-Nichols relations and new values are applied in PID controller. This adaptive loop is supervised by control logic which enables and disables adaptation, depending on some conditions in the control loop. Simulation and experimental results verified that this selftuning approach successfully adapts parameters of PID controller to variations of process parameters.
