Three-Dimensional Simulation of the Performance of an Oil-Fired Combustion Chamber

An overall three-dimensional mathematical model based on the control volume approach has been developed in order to predict the behavior of the steam generator combustion chamber. The mathematical model includes recirculation flow of combustion products, combustion of oil, radiation heat transfer as well as transport of fuel and combustion products throughout the furnace. The mathematical model is tested against data obtained on International Flame Research Foundation experimental furnace in IJmuiden (Netherlands). The furnace is horizontal with nearly square cross-section. Holes for positioning of measuring equipment are placed on side walls at the burner level. Calculated temperature field, velocity and oxygen profiles are favorably compared with experimental data.
