Scaling laws for gain‐guided vertical cavity lasers with distributed Bragg reflectors
The aim of this paper is to introduce a simple model and scaling laws for gain-guided vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL) cavities with laterally infinite distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR) mirrors. According to experimental observation and the numerical calculation of the transverse modes, VCSEL can be analyzed using the paraxial approximation and the Freshel number depending on the wavelength, cavity length, and the lateral size of the resonator. All of the resonator variables - the threshold gain, the frequency spectrum, and the transverse mode patterns are functions of the ratio of the Fresnel number to the passive cavity finesse. Details of the experiment and theoretical analysis are discussed and presented in this paper.
