Adaptive streaming algorithms used in MPEG DASH – QoE problem
In order to provide the end user with the best possible quality of requested content, the HTTP protocol based standard called MPEG DASH was developed. MPEG DASH defines a way of notifying the user that a variety of transmission streams of different qualities exist together with the information needed to select the appropriate transmission path. The bit rate adaptation algorithms used in MPEG DASH clients can be divided into several major groups: bandwidth- based algorithms, buffer-based algorithms, and algorithms that take into account the available buffer size and the bandwidth. In order to analyze the quality of service provided to users, both QoS and QoE parameters should be taken into account. From the available research it can be concluded that when preparing content for transmission, it is necessary to analyze the content itself in order to improve its segmentation which results in better selection of the most favorable adaptation scenario.
