Detecting Bad Internal Resistance of LV HRC Fuse Links Using Infrared Thermography
LV HRC Fuse links are one of the first made elements in power system. Simple construction hides complex behaviour. During fuse operation, inner link manifests different thermal patterns on the ceramic surface. Control of operation during regular maintenance often is conducted with the infrared thermal camera. Infrared thermography is a fast non-destructive method by which any problem can be identified based on recorded thermal patterns on the surface. In order to precisely identify problems, thermal camera operators must be well familiar with fuse link construction and operation. The paper brings inside in fuse link history, construction and tendency in changes during a life cycle. The novelty of the paper is in presented thermal patterns on the basis of which a bad resistance can be detected inside the fuse link.
