Building partnerships: the inter/multi/transdisciplinary dimension
In the sense of building partnerships for innovation, this paper stresses the difference between empirical and orientational knowledge, which is culturally defined and socially implemented. Inter/multi/transdisciplinarity is seen as the backbone in research and in university settings. Special stress is put on the importance of Humanities and Social Sciences in two basic senses - the direct link to research topics and also raising the awareness that research is primarily geared towards man and society. In this context, time and mutual respect play a crucial role.
