Burnum – vojničko središte provincije Dalmacije. Burnum a Military Centre in the Province of Dalmatia

During the 1st c. AD Burnum was composed off different components: a Roman legionary camp with accompanyng area, an auxiliary castellum, and a municipium that had developed out of canabae and the settlement of Liburnian tribe of Burnistae (Gradina near Puljani).The Legio XX, later called Valeria Victrix, was stationed in a temporary summer camp. In AD 10 at the latest, XIth replaced it in Burnum, when a permanent camp in stone was constructed. The legion IIIIth Flavia Felix, arriving to Burnum in c. AD 70. It was stationed ther until AD 86, when it was replaced with one vexillatio of the legion VIIIth Augusta. At least four auxiliary units were present in Burnum during the 1st c.: Ala I Hispanorum, Cohors II Cyrrhestarum sagittaria, Cohors III Alpinorum and Cohors I Montanorum civium Romanorum.
