Moć i nemoć fantastike
In this book, the phenomenon of fantasy literature has been observed from the perspective of the involvement of the mythic consciousness in its structure. This mythic consciousness does not really translate to the plan of other descriptions and is only understandable from within, which science, in various fields, has already proven. The book shows how the activate mode of the mythic consciousness (in text structures, as well as in relationship of the text towards the reader) also exists in the corpus of recent Croatian fantasy prose, through a type of communication that at the same time conceals and reveals, explains and confuses, thus creating a special relationship, a kind of game between the sender and the recipient of the message. This non-communicative (in terms of lacking communication, or misleading readres), and sometimes anti-communicative characteristics (conscious introduction of the ambiguous, ambiguousness as a program, disrupting of communication) are sometimes considered constitutive for the construction of fantasy storytelling given that this kind of literary communication is directly associated to the mythical. Starting from the definition of the so called rhetoric of anti-communication of A. Hansen-Loeve who states that every positive expression in the language of this world about the language and the essence of the language of the other world, leads to an imaginary statement or a lie, which does not happen only if the qualities of the other world are expressed ex negativo, or ex contrario, i. e., if the language of this world uses the system of allusions, the book shows how fantasy discuorse establishes a living relationship with textual strategies of the so called apophatic discourse, which derives from the concept of the apophatic or negative theology.Because of the transcedence of the divine essence, God can not be percieved by the manner in which we percieve the creation of the world, i. e. through concepts and categories of time and space. Both fantasy writers and mystics share the study of the supernatural and experience that the supernatural (God, with mystics) cannot be expressed in ordinary language, but the language, speaking of the unspeakable, must develope special strategies, always with the aim of influencing listeners or readers. This correlation of fantasy and apophatic discourse is the subject of this study, with further aims to discover the relationship between communicative and anti-communicatice, as well as the role of the performative element in the poetics of fantasy.
