Nin - arheološka istraživanja u sklopu župne crkve Sv. Asela (Anselma)

Excavations at the parish church of St Asel continued in the southern part of the complex and were carried out during two campaigns, in 1998 and 2000. Fifty eight graves were registered in a layer 0.40-0.50 m deep and include burials in walled vaults (28) and ordinary graves marked with grave architecture (26). Burial finds in both groups consist mainly of variety of jewellery: earrings, rings, locks and pendants. The small early Christian church has been excavated up to the level of the recent stone floor tiling. The western part of the church, the southern wall and the area behind the apse have been researched using probes. Other finds discovered within the excavated area include remains from the Roman period - three tegula drainage canals, an imbrex canals, part of a side street, the facade and entrance to the Roman building and numerous shards of household ceramics and glass vessels, metal objects, pieces of mosaics, frescoes, and so forth. Prehistoric finds have been discovered in the deepest layers on the western, southern and eastern sides of the excavated area and include numerous ceramic vessel shards.
