Stelae from the Workshops of the 7th Legion from Tilurium and Viminacium

This research tries to prove that the stone-masonry workshops which produced tombstones and other monuments for the 7th Legion in Tilurium in the Roman province of Dalmatia an later in Viminacium in Upper Moesia, were not controlled by military craftsmen, but that their main customers were military personnel. Viminacium military steles follow the style trends of Moesia and neighboring Panonia, which means that stone-masonry workshops from Tilurium, i.e. its master craftsmen were not moved to Viminacium together with the Legion, but that the new workshop, sufficient for quite a number of clients, was formed there.
