Teorije simbolizma, evokacije i horizonta: okviri za interpretiranje tišina u francuskoj suvremenoj poeziji
In this paper we try to show that different types of linguistic silence are systematically used in modern and contemporary (French) poetry. Indeed, modern poets (and modern minds in general) systematically rely on the mechanism of active perception (as characterized by Chklovskij, Berthoz, Collot) in order to (make) perceive even those things that are non-present and invisible. Linguistic silence is the very place where, by way of different devices (blanks, absence or deviant use of interpunction, nominal constructions, ellipses, fragments, explicit or implicit reference to silence, etc.), the range of expected meanings and impressions increases dramatically. By resorting to linguistic silences, modern and contemporary poets create a new, complex relationship with the poetic word and trigger the evocative processes which have been claimed by theories of symbolism (Sperber) and evocation (Ruwet, Dominicy) to be essential to the realisation and interpretation of poetic effects.
