Il dalmatico di Muljačić: note sull'evoluzione di un modello complesso di storia linguistica
The study of extinct autochthonous Romance dialects of the Eastern Adriatic, traditionally known by the common term Dalmatian, occupies a central place in the work of the renowned phonologist and sociolinguist Žarko Muljačić. During half-a-century long career, Muljačić’s views of his favorite subject have undergone numerous changes and methodological innovations, resulting with a complex model of the internal and external history of “Dalmatian-Romance languages”, centered on linguistic contacts and conflicts. This paper aims to offer a brief survey of the evolution of this model and to reflect on some of its most interesting points.
