The sea scull mystery: Antropological and DNA identification
To provide better understand the evolving role of the forensic anthropologist in relation to other forensic specialists involved in the identification of human skeletal remains. In summer 2000, during trawling south's from island Svetac in Adriatic sea, fisherman caught one human scull without lower jaw. Morphoanthropological characteristics suggested that it was probably a female scull, certainly younger aged. DNA (from teeth and from blood of predictive parents of young missing man) was analyzed simultaneously at Department of Forensic Medicine, University Hospital Split and DNA laboratory of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zagreb. Results clearly showed that the scull belongs to a female and doesn't match with DNA profile of the presumed parents.
