Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome Following Pneumococcical Pneumonia and Sepsis in the 3-Year-Old Girl
The haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is the most common in children under the age of 4. Microangiopatic anemia, thrombocytopenia and renal failure are common features. We review the case of a 3-year-old girl presenting the invasive pneumococcal disease. Presenting clinical and laboratory data we confirmed that in our case, following the invasive pneumococcal disease Streptococcus pneumoniae was the trigger of HUS. High doses of corticosteroides, fresh frosen plasma, antibiotics, and 5S human immunoglobulin was a succesful treatment.
