Determination of the plasma lactate concentration in the sportsmen during the rest and exercise
Lactate is the final product of anaerobic glucose metabolism. The lactate concentration in the blood reflects relationship between lactate synthesis in tissue and lactate metabolism which occurs predominately in liver and kidneys. As part of one extensive study, the plasma lactate concentration was determined among sportsmen.Capillary blood samples were taken from ten healthy sportsmen during rest and exercise. Results showed higher lactate concentration during exercise(steps of performance:I.2.54±0.49 ; II.2.53±0.37 ; III.3.03±0.47 ; IV.4.08±0.61 ; V.5.67±1.00 ; VI.11.63±1.77 mmol/L)and normal during the rest period(1.86±0.48 mmol/l).Hyperlactatemia is detected in conditions of increased pyruvate load due to a rise in glycolysis associated with muscle stress, which occurs during sport activities.
