The role of tramadol hydrochloride in treating rheumatic diseases (comparative approach)

In order to evaluate the efficacy of tramadol hydrochloride ("Tramal" Grunental GMBH) in treatment rheumatic diseases, it has been administered to a group of 68 patients with rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis = 14 patients ; osteoarthritis of the knee and hip = 20 patients ; low back šain = 34 patients) receiving 50 milligrams tramadol hydrochloride twice a day during a 10-day treatment. The visual analogue scale (VAS) has been used in following the pain relief assessments during the therapy. The best analgesic effect of tramadol hydrochloride has been proved on the patients affected by the vertebrogen painful syndrome of lumbar spine. During the terapeutic treatment with tramadol hydrochloride 13 (19%) patients, mostly the elderly, experienced side effects, manifested as nausea and dry mouth. There were no side effects in the control group.
