Modular origami and 3D-symmetry
Point and space groups are mathematical objects used to describe symmetry properties in physics and chemistry, particularly in crystallography. For teaching and learning about symmetry and symmetry groups, models of polyhedra are a usual tool. Modular origami models of polyhedra have all the advantages of other polyhedra models plus the advantage of being easy to make, (re)assemble and transport. This paper is a survey of symmetry group theory with emphasis on crystallographic symmetry groups and teaching of the topic using modular origami models.
