In the marine flora of North Velebit Channel, we registered in total 362 benthic taxa, including 8 different Potamogetonales, 71 chlorophytes, 52 pheophytes, 168 rhodophytes, and 63 cyanophytes. The richest phytobenthos of 226 macroalgae we have found in the southernmost shore of Krk island from Baška to Stara Baška, and 225 macroalgae in the mainland shore from port Jurjevo to Stinica. The poorest phytobenthos with less than 155 macroalgae we have noted in northeastern Rab at Lopar, while the islands Prvić, Grgur, Goli, and minor islets have an intermediate subequal diversity from 164 to 163 macroalgae. The main algological peculiarity there is a considerable richness of 41 calcified hard algae, mostly in Corallinaceae but including also 6 calcified chlorophytes. Other local peculiarities are the abundant marine Potamogetonales with 8 taxa and halophilic Charales with 4 taxa. The algal diversity of 291 taxa in North Velebit Channel is nearly average inside the Adriatic. The local richness of 41 calcified hard algae is the maximal one in the Adriatic, and it is related to the strong and perpetual Bora storms, for these hard algae chiefly predominate here in the most stormy profiles. The richness of Charales and Potamogetonales is also maximal in the Adriatic, and may be related to local brachish habitats chiefly at numerous submarine springs in karst bottoms. The noting of local names of the marine flora resulted there by even 59 marine phytonymes, including 48 dialectal names of different algae, 12 ones of calcified hard algae, and 16 archaic phytonymes in Veyska tongue predominate here in the most stormy profiles. The richness of Charales and Potamogetonales is also maximal in the Adriatic, and may be related to local brachish habitats chiefly at numerous submarine springs in karst bottoms. The noting of local names of the marine flora resulted there by even 59 marine phytonymes, including 48 dialectal names of different algae, 12 ones of calcified hard algae, and 16 archaic phytonymes in old "Veyska Zayk" tongue of early medieval origin. The local onomastic diversity of even 55 vernacular marine phytonymes is the maximal known in Europe and elsewhere, except some Pacific islands (Japan and Polynesia).
