Imunosupresivi
Immunosuppresants are drugs which suppress the immune response. They are used in organ and tissue transplantation for the prophylaxis of graft rejection and in various diseases considered to have an auto-immune component (lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, dermatomyositis, chronic severe polyarthritis, chronic active hepatitis, chronic glomerulonephritis with nephrotic syndrome, myasthenia gravis, thrombocytopenic purpura). Patients who are under chronic therapy with these agents are at higher risk of infections and cancer. The most important immunosuppressants are cyclosporin, corticosteroids, cytostatics (azathioprine, mercaptopurine, cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, chlorambucil, mycophenolate mofetil), antilymphocyte globulines and monoclonal anitbodies (campath-1H, inolimomab, muromonab-CD3, zolimomab aritrox).
