Degeneracy in the equivalent bond orbital model for high-energy band in the photoelectron spectra of saturated hydrocarbons

In the equivalent bond orbital model for the C-2s-ionization energies of saturated hydrocarbons (put forward by Bieri, Dill, Heilbronner and Schmelzer in 1977) a highly degenerate energy level occurs. This energy level originates from the (equally degenerate) eigenvalue -1 in the spectrum of the weighed line graph of the molecular graph. We establish rules for the multiplicity of this energy level / graph eigenvalue.
