On some structural and hydrogen sorption properties of the HoNi_5_-_xAl_x intermetallics
The results on structural and hydrogen sorption properties of the HoNi_5_-_xAl_x intermetallics were reported. It was found that nickel can be replaced by aluminium up to the composition HoNi_3Al_2 without changing the crystal structure of the prototype compound. All these ternary alloys were found to react reversibly with hydrogen and absorb up to 3.72 hydrogen atoms per alloy formula unit. The entropy and the enthalpy were determined from the pressure composition isotherms. It was found that the hydrogen desorption equilibrium pressure and the enthalpy decrease, while the entropy increases with the increasing content of aluminium.
