The 7th World Congress of Biological Psychiatry covered mostly clinical, but also preclinical data on the effects of drugs used in the treatment of mental disorders, mechanism(s) of drug action, efficacy, tolerability and side effects of antidepressants, typical and atypical antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers. The roles of neurotransmitters involved in the pathophysiology and treatment of mental disorders (mostly schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizophreniform disorder or major depressive disorder), i.e. dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT), noradrenaline (NA), GABA, glutamate, glycine, and especially corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH), and drugs affecting particular neurotransmitters or their receptors in the treatment of psychiatric disorders were discussed.
