With high speed machining towards 21st century, CIM'97
The great expectations for further improvement of manufacturing engineering, at the transition to the 21st century, in the area of the machining systems are laid down into high speed machining. High speed machining significantly improves speeds of main and feedrate motions, significantly reduces machining time while, at the same time preserves the quality of the machined surface. Machining accuracy is also improved, especially for sensitive and hard machinable materials. The cutting forces are reduced what enables the reduction of clamping forces and reduction of machining power. That results in reduction of masses of moving parts of machine tools what enables construction of highdynamic machine tools. The thinwall workpieces could be easier machined, same as workpieces made of hard and tempered materials. The number of machining operations is reduced, the grinding could become unnecessary and coolant does not have to be applied in finish machining. All the realised advantages of high speed machining mentioned above, significantly reduces the machining costs and investments in new machines.
