An Outrigger Trimaran Concept Design Model

Development of the coastal ferry service in the Adriatic is expected to attract different design solutions. Multicriterial decision making is necessary if efficient solutions of the transport problem are sought. Multicriterial approach requires mathematical design models of different generic type of vessels. After previous experience with developing concept design models of fast monohull and catamaran ferry, an outrigger trimaran design model was structured. Special analytic modulii for outrigger trimaran were developed. Since information on trimarans is scarce, some preliminary approximations and assumptions were necessary in estimating specific design elements (e.g. layout, weight, resistance, stability etc.). The model were made compatible to the multiattribute decision making shell developed at University of Zagreb. Initial design of a 300 passenger trimaran ferry is presented.
