Biomechanical testing of friction and damage of the hip prosthesis

One of the complications in artificial hip implantation is aloplastic substance loosening. The aim of these trials is to examine the kind of lubrication influence upon the torsional moment as well as its role in the femoral endoprosthesis part loosening. The research device is performed with the simulation possibility of the similar positions like in the original performances of the implanted endoprosthesis joint. It refers primarily to possibilities of achieving the definite forces and velocities. Trials were performed in combination with seven types of loading, as well as with four lubrication types: dry, water, plasma and the light oil. Obtained measuring results in combination with the lubrication proved a slight increase of the friction moment with the difference of the dry friction showing progressive gradient of change. The course of the friction factor change is essentially different from the course of the friction moment change. It deals especially with the lubrication trials. In the trials without lubrication, with the constant increase of force (loading) leads to the friction factor increase similar to the friction moment. Friction moment increase within the considered loading range, can be explained by the presence of the bordering friction in cases with lubrication, as well as the dry friction in cases without lubrication. On the other hand, in the dry friction relatively quickly comes to the &#8220 ; scratching&#8221 ; . Such a process is often a progressive one. Unfavorable torsion forces influence upon the femoral endoprosthesis part loosening is in connection with the friction and the artificial joint lubrication.
