Strength Analysis of Stiffening Rings of Bilobe Cargo Tanks in Liquefied Gas Carriers

The paper describes briefly the design procedure of independent cargo tanks in Liquefied Gas Carriers, based on the Classification Rules. 2D FEM strength analysis of the stiffening ring in a bilobe cargo tank, together with ship web frame, is elaborated in detail as a proposed design standard. It is pointed out that strength analysis of the stiffening ring on elastic foundation of the wood layer, as minimum Rules requirement, overestimates the actual results.
