FDI Performance and Determinants in Southeast European Countries : Evidence from Cross-Country Data
The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of FDI performance in SEECs and to define determinants of FDI inflows in the region since these countries differ from other transition economies. Our regression results indicate that progress in transition and economic reform had the most important impact on FDI inflows, especially the progress in small-scale privatisation. FDI inflows are also positively correlated with GDP p/c and reform in banking sector. We have not found any support in the data for inflation rate, progress in trade and foreign exchange system and progress in non-bank financial institutions to be neither a robust nor a significant explanatory variables.
