Contribution to the strip theory application in the component build-up method
The lifting surface generates vortex sheet that significantly changes the flowfield at the downstream lifting surface of the aircraft configuration and therefore its aerodynamic characteristics. The numerical model presented includes a subsonic model of lifting surface-body combination, model of vortex sheet and its influence on downstream lifting surface for small angle of attack. This model can be implemented in component build-up method used in preliminary estimation of aerodynamic performances. Model was compared with well known method of interference effect determined by strip theory. Numerical model has an approach of undeveloped, while strip theory uses fully developed vortex sheet presented as concentrated vortex. The difference between these two approaches could be significant in analysis of particular aircraft configuration.
