EXPERIENCES WITH PHARMACY PRACTICE AT AN EARLY STAGE OF PHARMACY EDUCATION
At Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Zagreb, Pharmacy practice course (obligatory 210 hours in total) was introduced from first (Pharmacy practice, F1-12, PP 1/5) to fifth year (Pharmacy practice, F1-12, PP 5/5) in newly reformed pharmacy studies according to Bologna process from academic year 2005/2006. Pharmacy practice was organized in collaboration with Croatian Chamber of Pharmacists, national community pharmacies (state-owned and private), and with other pharmacy settings relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. hospital pharmacy, national Agency for Medicinal Products and Medicinal Devices, pharmaceutical industry research and development departments, regulatory industrial departments, and industrial and wholesale's marketing departments, as well. Pharmacy practitioners from different pharmacy practice environment have virtually delivered pharmacy practice to students at first year of study during 15 hours, while the students of second year of study have experienced 15 hours of their practical work at community pharmacies. In organizational part of pharmacy practice course a special attention was added to the choice of collaborators from practice. In Pharmacy practice PP 1/5, pharmacy practitioners (7 in total), not older than 30 years and with no more than 5 to 7 years of their practical work at present working place, were engaged. They were young, enthusiastic and with positive orientation towards their job. Croatian Chamber of Pharmacists was responsible for the choice of pharmacies (9 in total, either in chain pharmacies or as stand-alone pharmacy), and the main pharmacy manager was responsible for the choice of students' mentor/s in their pharmacy (26 in total). Up to 200 students per year were involved in pharmacy practice course in academic years 2005/06 and 2006/07. The Croatian Chamber of Pharmacists has awarded each students' mentor with credit points per number of mentorship.
