Investigation of properties of chemically modified flax fibers
Previously performed investigations of the effect of citric acid on performance properties of flax fabric greatly confirmed the obtained results of the investigation of cotton fabric under the same conditions. Therefore, in this paper the investigations are directed at defining the changes in relevant properties of flax fibers after chemical modification. Thus, the investigations have as its purpose to define the effect of the performed modification on fiber properties and to exclude the effect of changes in construction parameters of more complex textiles on the investigated properties established after modification. This paper presents the investigation the influence of chemical modification on mechanical and sorption properties of technical flax fibers. The effect of crosslinking citric acid with cellulose molecules on flax fiber properties was determined by measuring and comparing the properties (tensile strength, resistance to twisting and moisture absorption) of untreated and modified flax fibers.
