On numerical modelling of nonisothermal elastoplastic response of thin-walled structural elements
Efficient numerical algorithms for elastoplastic analysis of thin-walled shell-like structural components employing nonisothermal, realistic hardening responses have been proposed. A computational strategy for integration of the elastoplastic constitutive model using the Reissner-Mindlin shell kinematics, completely formulated in tensor notation, is presented. The proposed algorithms have been embedded into a layered assumed strain isoparametric finite element, which is capable of geometrical nonlinearities. Nonisothermal elastoplastic behaviour of a circular tube subjected to cyclic bending and a box column under axial compression are analysed. Under the assumption of an adiabatic process, the increase in temperature is computed during elastoplastic deformation. Robustness and numerical stability of the computational procedures are exhibited.
