Computer Simulation of Quenching of Steel Workpieces with Complex Shape
An algorithm and computer program for prediction of hardness distribution in quenched steel workpieces with complex shape have been investigated. The algorithm is based on finite volume method for calculation of transient temperature field, and on characteristic cooling time for structure transformation. Actual heat transfer coefficient values involved in mathematical model have obtained using the LISCIC/NANMAC probe. The algorithm and computer program are completed to solve 2-D situation problems such as the simulation of quenching of axially symmetrical steel workpieces. The algorithm has been experimentally tested in simulation of hardness in as-quenched cylindrical steel specimens without and with deep axial holes. The test showed that the hardness distribution is as-queched workpieces of complex shape can be successfully estimated using the proposed algorithm of computer simulation.
