Contribution to numerical estimation of hardness penetration depth in quenched steel specimens
A mathematical model of as-quenched hardness in a steel specimen with complex geometry (complex cylinders, cones, spheres) has been developed to describe the hardness distribution. The model consists of numerical simulation of heat transfer in process of cooling and of numerical simulation of hardness. The algorithm for specimen quenching has been developed and a computer program was done. The alorithm and computer program are completed to solve 2-D situation problems. The computer program is consisted on three parts: automatic computation of domain and grid generating, computataion of cooling curve in specimen points and computation of hardness in specimen points. The mathematical model has been tested by comparison with experimental data. The test has shown that the model describes the hardness distribution in quenched steel with complex form with quite a satisfactory accurancy.
