Elastic-plastic fracture of a CN tension plate specimen - an experimental and numerical analysis
This paper presents a combined experimental and numerical simulation method for determination of critical values of fracture mechanics parameters; Jc, and crack tip opening displacements, dtc, associated with stable fracture onset, using centrally notched tension panel specimens. Fracture experiments and non-linear FE analyses including both large deformation and elastic-plastic material behaviour were carried out. Large scale yielding occurred in ligaments, and stable fracture proceeded to plastic collapse. The ratio d/(J/so) was examined, and obtained values range mainly from 0.9 - 1.
